Thursday, September 23rd from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM Join us for an afternoon to get to know what the Career Center, Health Beat, Student Employment, and Alumni offices/teams are about and the services and resources they each have to offer. This session will include the opportunity to interact and network with staff from each of these areas and ask any questions. Career Center – The Career Center is your one-stop shop for all things career, such as internship and job search, resume, graduate school preparation, and all other life beyond college topics. They provide a plethora of services and resources to help think about career and guide your steps in getting there, including drop-in advising and 1:1 appointments with advisors. Health Beat – Health Beat is the centralized pre-health advising and resource center at UC San Diego’s Career Center. They provide strategic advising to help students explore, prepare, and navigate the admissions and application process for medical school and other health professional schools. Student Employment Office – The Student Employment Office's team mission is to build an informed student employment community and to maximize students on-campus work experience to help them reach their goals. Alumni – Your alumni community – nearly 200,000 strong – is always close, no matter where you live. Utilize your alumni network to connect with Tritons across the globe, find a mentor, and engage in UC San Diego traditions. Most of us use caffeine to stay awake, help us study and keep us functioning when tired. However, over 67% of employed Americans struggle with burnout and say they've made mistakes when tired. Caffeine can boost your mood and energy, but it can also make stress and sleep-deprivation worse. Author and chemist Danielle Robertson Rath ‘07 will speak about the science behind caffeine and how to manage your levels to prevent burnout. Alumni Celebration is all about celebrating our alumni—and the perfect time to celebrate our local alumni business owners. As it happens, many alumni from the division of physical sciences and biology have launched successful businesses in the alcohol industry. Our panel discussion will start at the very beginning with the question: Why do brewers need yeast to produce beer? This event will provide an excellent opportunity for outstanding postdocs and PhD students from leading graduate programs to meet our research faculty, interview for open postdoctoral positions, and discover the exciting and innovative research taking place at The Ohio State University and the Research Institute at the Nationwide Children's Hospital (NCH). Application for this event is open to postdocs or senior graduate students who have completed or expect to complete their PhD by August 2021. Selected candidates will be invited to a virtual event with Ohio State on April 26, 2021. Interviews will occur April 27-30.
