DOE’s Office of Science Is Now Accepting Applications for Summer 2022 Undergraduate Internships10/26/2021 https://science.osti.gov/
Students Will Conduct Research and Technical Projects at National Laboratories Applications are currently being accepted for the Summer 2022 Term of three programs offered by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science: the Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI) program, the Community College Internships (CCI) program, and the Visiting Faculty Program (VFP). The application deadline is January 12, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. EST. SULI and CCI offer undergraduates opportunities to conduct research or technical projects, respectively, at DOE National Laboratories and facilities under the mentorship of laboratory staff scientists and engineers. Project topics cover a wide range of scientific and technological priority areas to support the DOE mission, spanning from fundamental science to applied research and development. The SULI and CCI programs attract a diverse pool of applicants; on average, about 8% of SULI applicants and 25% of CCI applicants are from Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). VFP seeks to increase the research competitiveness of faculty members and their students at institutions historically underrepresented in the research community in order to expand the workforce vital to DOE mission areas. As such, VFP especially attracts faculty members from MSIs, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Typically, about 50% of the participants are from MSIs, one-third of which are HBCUs. Selected college and university faculty members collaborate with DOE laboratory research staff on research projects of mutual interest. Each participating faculty member may invite one or two students (one of whom may be a graduate student) to join the research team. SULI, CCI, and VFP participants are selected by the DOE national laboratories and facilities from a diverse pool of applicants from academic institutions around the country. The programs are managed by the Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists (WDTS) in the Office of Science. More information can be found at https://science.osti.gov/ Each summer TUM invites excellent students from select North American universities and the Imperial College London to spend an approx. 9-week long research stay at TUM. Participating students gain valuable insights into the research work at Germany’s top-ranked technical university and enhance their technical and methodological qualifications.
TUM PREP will start on July 4, 2022 and will end on September 2, 2022. For TUM PREP 2022, students can choose between a large variety of about 50 interesting research projects at our various university chairs, so that each student will find the perfect fit. Via the online TUM PREP Project Database it is easy to browse the different projects. Students can search for one of the TUM departments / Schools, but also for keywords like the academic fields the respective project supervisors are looking for. This encourages students to also choose projects in a different field/ department / School than their study focus at the home university. Applications for TUM PREP 2022 Students will find the link to the online platform on the TUM PREP Website. All students must have uploaded their documents online and submit their application latest by Sunday, November 21, 2021. Professors should send the students’ recommendation letters by this deadline. Students will be informed about their admission to the program between mid-December 2021 and end of January 2022 and should check their e-mails (also spam folders) regularly. Tri-Alpha, was founded March 24, 2018 at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Over 100 members of the Alpha Chapter were initiated that day, including undergraduate students, faculty, staff, alumni, and honorary members. Following the successful induction, the College took steps to incorporate Alpha Alpha Alpha so that chapters could be started on other campuses across the country. We are a National Honor Society for First-Generation College Students and with over 60 + chapters across the country. We at UCSD are BETA KAPPA. The Alpha Alpha Alpha, Beta Kappa chapter recognizes the academic achievements of first-generation college students and fosters an inclusive community of first-generation students at UCSD. To qualify, students must:
Interested students should complete the application form no later than November 1, 2021 @ 11:59PM. Apply here! The Tritons First Initiative will be sponsoring the $10 lifetime membership to the first 100 applicants accepted into Tri-Alpha! Wednesday, October 20th, 9:00 - 10:30am
The Student Success Center in the Division of Physical Sciences has partnered with the Career Services Center and the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry to host the “Careers in Chemistry” workshop on Wednesday, October 20th from 9:00 to 10:30am. Students will learn about resources and opportunities available for Chemistry transfer students from the Student Success Center as well as the Career Services Center. Additionally, students will get to hear from UC San Diego Chemistry & Biochemistry professors, Dr. Stacey Brydges and Dr. Thomas Bussey, about their academic and career journeys, why they choose their respective chemistry fields, and their general advice for chemistry majors. Lastly, the latter part of the workshop will be dedicated to answering student questions submitted through the registration form or questions that come up during the workshop.
